Akaku: Maui Community Television - "Maui Walk of Heroes" and Movie
Akaku: Maui Community Television presents its second annual “Maui Walk of Heroes” celebration and fundraiser, honoring Kumu Tauʻā, Amy Hanaialiʻi Gilliom and Uncle Richard Hoʻopiʻi, live at Akaku Center on Dairy Road. Comedian Andy Bumatai hosts the event, which includes music by the honorees, a live telethon and a silent auction. Ono grinds with specials from Wowee Maui Kava Bar & Grill, Ren’s Sushi, Amigo’s authentic Mexican food, and Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice for dessert.
“No Vote No Grumble,” a voter registration initiative sponsored by the Lahaina Hawaiian Civic Club, will have an information table at the event. Community Work Day will provide containers for recycling and trash, which are available free of charge for community events.
The celebration starts at 5:00 p.m. At 8:00 p.m., there will be a free outdoor screening of Catherine Bauknight’s award-winning film, “Hawaiʻi: A Voice for Soveriegnty,” featuring many members of the Maui community.
