Pacific Whale Foundation's Ocean Camp Fall Session

Pacific Whale Foundation's Fall Session of Ocean Camp will be based on the theme "Fabulous Fish of Hawai'i." Children will learn about fish feeding guilds by visiting Maui Ocean Center and learning about adaptations of herbivores, carnivores, and coralivores. The next day they will head to one of Maui's most beautiful coral reef sites: Ulua Beach where children will have the option of snorkeling with a certified life guard for a reef tour while observing defenses and adaptations like mimicry, countershading, false eye spots and more. We follow this up with a favorite: SURFING! As a surfer, being aware and conscious of protecting the many endemic corals that support our endemic reef fish is a must. Children will learn how they can make a difference our specialized Hawaiian beauties like the millet seed butterfly fish, the potter's angelfish and the zebra blenny. Parenting strategies is a must for keiki, even fish keiki and there are definitely many strategies  such as those of seahorse fathers who give birth; broadcast spawners; and fish who mate for life. We will wrap up the session by learning adaptations of both noctornal and diurnal fish as we set sail to snorkel at Molokini Crater.
