Maui Social Media Users Group Gogobot Presentation

Gogobot, a social media network for travel lovers has been making national headlines since its launch two years ago.  Called “one of the top 50 websites of 2011” by Time Magazine; a “top travel site” by Forbes; and “one of the best summer travel apps” by CNN, Gogobot recently grew from one million to two million users in one month. As a result, Gogobot has expanded its efforts to increase awareness and users in select popular travel destinations including Maui.

Founded by ex-MySpace executive Travis Katz and former chief architect for Yahoo! Ori Zaltzman, Gogobot allows users to share reviews and post cards of the places they visit while traveling. Unlike other popular Travel sites such as Yelp and Trip Advisor, Gogobot users get travel advice and recommendations from people they trust through their social communities on Facebook and Twitter.  Gogobot heavily focuses on photo sharing rather than lengthy copy. Users can take photos of the places they visit and turn them into visually stunning postcards.

Although businesses do not set up profiles on Gogobot, they can encourage customers to write reviews. Gogobot Maui Community Manager Katie McMillan will be conducting a special presentation at two upcoming Maui Social Media Users Group Meetings (MauiSMUG) to introduce the site and share more information on how Gogobot works. Businesses in the travel industry are encouraged to attend.

The first Gogobot MauiSMUG presentation will take place on Thursday Sept 27th from 4-6:30pm at the Maui Economic Development Board’s Malcom Center in Kihei. The next session takes place during the West MauiSMUG meeting on Wednesday October 3rd from 4-6:30pm at the Honua Kai Resort in Lahaina.  Participants must register in advance by going to www.mauismug.com. There is no cost to attend.

Businesses that would like to learn more about Gogobot can also contact Katie McMillan, Gogobot’s Maui Community Manger directly at 808-283-4120 or maui@gogobot.com.  Gogobot Maui also encourages anyone interested to join its travel loving community on Facebook at www.facebook.com/gogobotmaui or on Twitter at @Gogobotmaui.
