Oktoberfest on Maui!
Everyone’s invited to dine, have fun and help Maui’s Rotary clubs raise money.
Celebrate Oktoberfest early! Grab your lederhosen and come party with the Rotary Clubs of Kïhei-Wailea, Wailuku and Upcountry Maui at the beautiful King Kamehameha Golf Club on Saturday, Sept. 22, from 5 to 9 p.m.
The Oktoberfest celebration will give participants the opportunity to contribute toward Rotary’s youth and community projects on Maui.
The evening will include authentic German food and beverages, a silent auction, live music and plenty of dancing.
And no German celebration would be complete without a great selection of beer, which will be available along with wine, cocktails and other beverages at the no-host bar. Prost!
The Village Musicians—Lisa Owen (tuba, leader), Anne Durham (keyboard, accordion), Jerry Eisenberg (clarinet) and Jimmy Coulter (drums)—will play authentic oom-pah music in traditional German garb. All of the musicians are well-known on Maui and perform in many other professional groups, including the Maui Pops Orchestra and the Maui Community Band.
“If you have never done the Chicken Dance, it’s never too late to learn,” said Owen.
Lederhosen, dirndls and other Oktoberfest attire are encouraged, but not required. Prizes will be awarded for the most aptly dressed, best hat, most outstanding yodel, chicest Chicken Dance and other talents.
Silent auction items will include gift certificates for local restaurants, hotels, lüau and activities along with jewelry and original artworks by Maui’s finest talent.
Tickets include gourmet German food beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Hors d’oeuvres will include sliced meats (ham, salami and paprika sliced roast); a variety of cheeses; homemade beer dip with Limburger and Camembert; herring salad; grilled sausage musubi; schitzel musubi; dills, spiral daikon and red radish with assorted mustards; and a variety of breads with whipped butter.
Salad offerings will include Bavarian cabbage salad, red beet salad, bacon-chive potato salad, and butter lettuce salad with tomato and onion with German dressing.
Dinner choices offered will be grilled sausages with small, bratwurst-roasted Maui onion potato, sauerkraut braised with smoked bacon and Maui onion, sauerbraten with homemade parsley spaetzle, crunchy stuffed pork belly roasted with bread stuffing and caraway demi-glaze, and sautéed mahimahi in riesling cream sauce with roasted almonds and mushrooms.
For dessert, try classic German apple strudel and Kaiserschmarren with egg liqueur.
Tickets are $60 and can be purchased online at www.MauiRotary.org or by calling Kïhei-Wailea Rotary Club President Joe Mitchell at 250-1405.
