Artist 2 Artist: Henry Kapono & Keola Beamer

Friday, March 30, 2018; McCoy Studio Theater; 7:30 pm

In this new MACC concert series, two artists talk-story, play music, and have fun! Each concert will feature Henry Kapono and a different guest artist in an intimate format that offers the audience a rare opportunity to get up-close and personal. The artists will share music and stories from their careers and answer questions, giving the audience an up-close-and-personal seat at the jam session. Henry Kapono is a performer who has it all – vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, composer, thrilling performer, audience favorite—and multiple honors and awards, including a Grammy nomination. He has taken home numerous Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards, including Male Vocalist of the Year, Song of the Year, Single of the Year, and Album

& Rock Album of the Year. Keola Beamer has breathed new life into slack key guitar music, yet stays true to its deep Hawaiian roots. He is a Hawaiian legend: singer-songwriter, composer, and guitar master with an impeccable, gorgeous style that is featured on The Descendants soundtrack and his 16 CDs. Keola was one of the first to use Hawaiian slack key techniques to create contemporary music that is also at home on jazz or classical stages. The Grammy Museum exhibit is the genesis of this “Artist 2 Artist” concert series, created and hosted by Henry Kapono, and featuring Keola Beamer, Jerry Santos, and Malani Bilyeu, iconic Hawaiian artists performing their hit songs that have become local anthems and the soundtrack for many growing up in Hawai‘i. Henry Kapono talks one-on-one with his guests about their careers, followed by an intimate jam session and concert you don’t want to miss!
