Kwanzaa Celebration 2018

Kwanzaa is an American holiday inspired by African traditions. Kwanzaa begins on December 26 through January 1. It is not intended to be a religious, political, or heroic holiday. During the seven day Kwanzaa festival, people rejoice in their ancestral values. Kwanzaa's origins are in the the agricultural harvest or first fruits of the harvest. The seven principles, one practiced each day of Kwanzaa are based on gathering the family together, commemoration of our ancestors, a rededication to the growth of the community, and  the offereing of gratitude for life's good.

The Maui County Kwanzaa celebration will be held on December 29, 2018 from 1-3 p.m. at the Iao Valley African American Monument. The event free and open to the public. The Kwanzaa celebration is sponsored by the County of Maui, and the African Americans on Maui Association (501c3).
