Jazz Maui presents Sunset Jazz featuring world-class live jazz music and chocolate/beverage pairings every Sunday from 5-7pm at the Maui Ku'ia Estate Chocolate Factory in Lahaina. A sensational saxophonist and vocalist, Joie Yasha has played more than 25 shows over the last two years at the Blue Note in Hawaii and recently at the Cicada in Los Angeles. She has headlined or performed in tandem with jazz, pop, world and spiritual musicians such as Bikram Singh, Nancy Wilson, Gladys Knight, Lou Rawls, Delfayo Marsalis, Joshua Redman, and Christina Aguilera. She has traveled and performed at festivals and in cities around the world including Jazz Maui Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, and the North Sea Jazz Festival at the Hague.
Well known on Maui, Paul Marchettti studied drums and percussion in New York and performed and recorded with artists such as Eric Marienthal, Mick Fleetwood, Walter Becker, Michael McDonald, Michael Buble, and many more. He started his career in 1973 touring and recording with Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary. Marchetti has appeared on national television shows and recorded and toured with an international list of artists.
In over 40 years bassist Marcus Johnson has performed, recorded, and toured with countless jazz luminaries including George Benson, David Benoit, Emil Richards, and Larry Coryell. He has also performed and recorded with a wide variety of popular artists ranging from Willie Nelson to Michael Buble to the Fifth Dimension to Amy Hanaiali'i. His work on upright and electric basses spans many different genres from straight up jazz, to classical and show orchestras, commercial television, movies, and radio.
Held in the upstairs open-air pavilion at the Maui Ku'ia Estate Chocolate Bar, Sunset Jazz offers great live music and sunset views. During the concerts, the chocolate factory features a carefully curated wine, spirits and beer list along with three flights of chocolate and beverage pairings for purchase. Chocolate Sommeliers are on hand to assist with pairings or imbibers can create their own.
Sunset Jazz attendees must be 21 or older and have a valid photo ID. Seating is limited and often sold out so advance ticket purchase is required. Proceeds frorm concert ticket sales benefit Jazz Maui's music education programs.
