Join our next Monthly SEWING SEWCIAL events: "Reuse, Rewear, Relove - Mending & Clothing Repair Sewcials" on Sunday, August 24th. There will be a morning session from 9am to 1pm, and an afternoon session from noon to 4pm. The two sessions will share lunch between noon and 1pm.
Participants are invited into our sewing studio to repair, mend, upcycle and restyle their clothing. The purpose of the program is to keep textile waste out of the landfill. After each sewcial, we will weigh the clothing and keep track of how much we have been able to save. Last year, we diverted nearly 2,000 pounds of textile waste from Maui landfills!
YOUR KULEANA: To participate, there are two things for you to do:
(1) Volunteer with The Sewing Hui 30 days prior to the workshop. This helps keep the events focused on service. You can volunteer in the studio or at home.
(2) Bring worn out textiles to use as stuffing for our Teddy Bear Project.
Join us for these sewcials to gather together, sew, chat, and enjoy lunch! Space is limited per session so please email thesewinghui@gmail.com. This event is open to anyone - so please tell your friends, spread the word.
Mahalo to the Maui County Recycling Department for supporting this initiative!
